The long Easter weekend dedicated to one of the most fascinating and least known of Sicily, that strip of land suspended between Nebrodis Peloritans and full of history, full of unforgettable natural flavors. MARCH 26 - THE THOLOS, THE ARGIMUSCO, MONTALBANO ELICONA
8:15 Meeting at Palermo, Piazzale Giotto and departure with own cars
12:00 The megaliths of Argimusco and stop for a picnic lunch
A short and intense walk among the huge boulders of quartz sandstone plateau of Argimusco (from the greek "argimoschion" - offshoots of the great plateau), the Stohnenge of Sicily. According to popular tradition in fact these rocks from the surface of a polished take on the most extravagant menhirs are carved in ancient times by humans and associated with the ancestral rites of femininity and masculinity. The current archeology tends, however, to exclude the anthropogenic considering the nature of the sole creator of this landscape, but the stunning views that can be enjoyed by quest'altipiano, a natural stage from which to admire a long stretch of the coast of Messina, and the Aeolian Islands Etna, making it one of the most beautiful places of Sicily. 15:00 Tholos itinerary
The Tholos, cubburi in the local dialect, are small and low stone buildings topped by a pseudo circular dome that such comes in an area of about 90 square kilometers between the towns of Raccuja, Floresta, Montalbano Elicona, and Ucria. They are made with a construction technique traced back to the pre-Greek funerary architecture is applied as in the case of the Mycenaean tombs than to the rural areas. Cubburi original use of different hypotheses have been proposed: some have speculated whether of tombs, some of prehistoric settlements, military outposts others. On their original use so there is no certainty, after they were used as a shelter for the shepherds that have been handed down for thousands of years the ancestral construction techniques with which they are made.
16:00 Visit Montalbano Elicona
Montalbano Elicona inserted in the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy, is one of the most ancient and evocative of the nebroidea. Located 907 meters above sea level on the ancient Roman road and medieval connecting the Tyrrhenian coast to the north-eastern Sicily's Ionian, Montalbano is rich in architectural treasures among which the Castle of Frederick II, the Basilica of the Assumption with the works Gagini and streets and the urban matrix of the Middle Ages.

March 27 - MALABOTTA WOOD
8:00 Breakfast and departure for the Forest Malabotta
9:30 The Woods Malabotta and packed lunch.
Place between the end of the Peloritans and the beginning of Nebrodi, the Malabotta Wood is one of the last true remaining forests in Sicily. During the walk we will cross the legendary "forest of the Patriarchs", an extraordinary mixed forest of centuries-old oaks and beeches, there inerpicheremo on more than 1300 m of Pizzo Vuturi and Pizzo Petrolo from where you can admire the stunning views of the valley of Malvern, cross the dense beech forest covering Serro Faita where we will stop for a picnic lunch beside a thriving source of fresh water.

March 28 - LAKES OF MARINELLO, TINDARI SANCTUARY AND THE ANCIENT TYNDARIS

10:00 Tindari , the Sanctuary and the archaeological area
The origin of the ancient Sanctuary of Tindarys is controversial and wanders into the myth . The Black Madonna , a symbol of the sanctuary, was probably carved in the V- VI century in the East and according to legend, was thrown into the sea by sailors from a ship that ran aground on the beach of Marinello . Here was collected from the inhabitants of that place and put it on the promontory of Tindarys where already the site of a church , which in turn built on the ruins of a temple dedicated to Ceres , which thus became the ancient Sanctuary . The new sanctuary was built in the 50s to accommodate the huge amount of pilgrims who flock in droves to invoke the grace of the black madonna .
A short walk from the Sanctuary lies the archaeological site of the ancient Tyndaris . Founded by Dionysius of Syracuse in 396 BC as a colony of Syracuse mercenaries later became Carthaginian naval base and later a Roman outpost . Are visible the extraordinary theater adapted in Roman times to the arena for gladiatorial combats , the spa, the mighty city walls and the ruins of the so-called " Basilica " which originally was to be a school
13:00 Lakes of Marinello
At the foot of the promontory of Tindarys is the characteristic lagoon formed by the seven "Marinello lakes", one of the last examples of brackish coastal environment in the north-eastern Sicily. The formation of the lagoon and recent and dates back to about 100 years ago due to specific tectonic processes that have affected the Tyrrhenian Sea and then to solid material poured into the sea from the river Timeto as a result of deforestation.
