2016, Sep 23-25 - Hyblean routes: Oxena river and other treasures of the south eastern Sicily
TripPuzzle in collaboration with Cooperativa Silene proposes a fascinating weekend in the northern Hyblean mounts.
Of the Hyblean we have a clear image of the gorges carved on the clear limestone as Pantalica, or Cassibile or Cava d'Ispica. But there is also a fascinating Hyblean "dark side", less known, made of ancient volcanoes and black lava rock. A river, the Oxena (or Ossena), has dug up some fascinating ancient lava rock pools interspersed with waterfalls, among terraces planted near Militello in Val di Catania, while the highest Hyblaean peak, Mount Lauro (986 mt), is an ancient volcano. A weekend exploring some of the classic destinations and others, lesser known, of Hyblean area between wild gorges, archeology and pretty villages.
