TripPuzzle and Silene cooperative, organize in the "Immaculate" weekend, 4 days of trekking in the heart of Sicily touching the ancient medieval villages of Gangi, Sperlinga and Nicosia.
An extraordinary journey in which we will discover some of the wonders of the Sicilian hinterland, exploring lesser known landscapes but with extraordinary suggestion. We will visit some of the most beautiful villages of Sicily (and Italy!) embedded in a landscape mosaic of natural forests and rural landscapes, crumbling castles, medieval narrow streets, great food and good wine.

The fuel input for moving by car is estimated at around € 80,00 per vehicle, we suggest you to split among the crew, excluding the owner / driver of the vehicle that helps with the demands of driving and the use of his car. 10:30 Arrival in Gangi
Excursion to the Red Cliff and Balza of Pezzalunga
In a recent and unprecedented geographical study based on the analysis of watershed ridges, it was discovered that the Red Cliff, a modest relief of Erei Mountains, located a few kilometers southeast of Gangi at about 950 m above sea level, leave the river courses of the rivers simeto-Salty-Sperlinga, Southern Imera-Salty-Gangi and Pollina. The route starts from the ancient and picturesque old former monastery of Gangi (850 m), from where walking through a shady dirt road we will forward to climb up on the ridges of the Pezzalunga Balza, of alternating pastures and woods in oak, pear trees and apple trees wild. At higher altitudes (max height m1055) widen the views of Mount Etna, the Nebrodi and the Madonie and the Red Cliff that we will reach easily after slipping back gently along the grassy northeastern slope Balza, including cows and horses grazing, we can observe up close and in all their evidence, the elements that make this place the geographical center of Sicily.

Gangi was proclaimed "Village of the villages in 2014" because of the extremely interesting monuments it contains, for the wonderful landscapes in which it faces and its eventful history and traces scattered throughout its territory. We visit the monuments and the most beautiful churches and the famous archaeological museum that collects the permanent exhibition of paintings by Giambecchina

Day 2 - Friday, December 9

9:00 Tasting of warm ricotta and withdrawal packed lunch made with products from own production company
Hike Mount Sambughetti and Campanito ponds
Bosco della Giumenta occupies the northern slopes of Monte dell'arenaceo Sambughetti (m1558), one of the main reliefs of the ridge of the Nebrodi. The natural forest is made from beech wood with holly on top, in the middle of Turkey oak and bottom by cork oak. Colle del Contrasto is a wide saddle, 1107 m in altitude. which handle the state 117 connecting Mistretta and Nicosia. From here begins a dirt in southwest leading to the eastern slopes of Mount Sambughetti. Mount Campanito (1512 m) is a sandstone rock that is part of the Sambughetti south ridge. To the east of this rock tooth you are found the Laghetti Campanito. The largest pond is located at an altitude of 1257 m and is of natural origin.

Excursion to the wood of Sperlinga
The wood of Sperlinga is an oak forest of deciduous trees to the south-west of the same name. The dominant tree is the oak essence, in its most thermophilic forms. The rocky ridges are locally enriched by old specimens of evergreen cork oak. The undergrowth is dominated by a thorny fabacea that in Sicily is called alastre (Calicotome infests), while the grassy clearings are now characterized by a massive flowering Crocus biflorus, beautiful iridacea characteristic of thermophilic oak forests of the eastern Mediterranean and one of the first flowers to appear in the mountains at the end of winter. The landscape is characterized by the emergence, from clay hills, large and small sandstone rocks.

15:00 Guided tour of Sperlinga with tasting of typical "tortone" in a cave
